H Limited wanted to register its company’s trademarks in China and then the Middle East. Whilst the registration forms and legalisation for China would be straightforward, legalisation for the Middle East would be more complicated and expensive. For example, the United Arab Emirates would require “double legalisation” – first of all, legalisation by the FCO affixing its apostille and then further legalisation by the Consular Department of the United Arab Emirates (confirming the FCO’s status) affixing its seal.
